Former akhund of Haji Javad Mosque released
Baku/26.10.11/Turan: Former akhund of the Haji Javad mosque, Shiite theologian Ahliman Rustamov, detained on October 25, was released near midnight. This was reported by his relatives.
Rustamov was interrogated by the State Security Service. No details were reported.
It should be noted that several Shiite theologians were briefly detained in recent days.
At that, Sardar Babayev, a member of the Spiritual Figures of Azerbaijan Association and editor-in-chief of the maide.az website, was charged under Art. 274. (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Local observers explain the detention of the believers by the recently aggravated relations between Azerbaijan and Iran. -06D-
