Former Chief Executive of Gadabay Arrested
Baku / 12.05.18 / Turan: Saleh Rustamov, who headed the executive power of the Gadabay region under the Popular Front government in 1992-93, was arrested for 4 months on charges of drug possession on May 9.
As his brother Taleh Rustamov told The Voice of America, Saleh was detained in Shamkir, when they were traveling together in a car to Baku.
"There were a lot of police on the stationary post, and the car was stopped, but I was not allowed to leave. They took Saleh along with his things. They took the phone and the bag, and then stated that he had drugs in large amounts. All this happened at the police station. On May 9, he was taken to Baku and the Narimanov court arrested him for 4 months. Saleh does not even smoke, so the accusation of drugs is ridiculous," said his brother.
Our attempt to get a comment from the law enforcement agencies failed.
It is possible that the real reason for the arrest is the authorities' hunt for all those who are suspected of financing opposition forces in Azerbaijan.
Saleh Rustamov is a citizen of Russia, where he is engaged in business. He visits his homeland once a year. -03B-
