Yegyana Amiraslanova
Former political emigrant told about her detention and interrogations upon her return to Baku
Baku/03.08.21/Turan: A former political emigrant, now a citizen of Azerbaijan and Germany, Yegyana Amiraslanova, was detained at the airport upon her arrival in Baku on the night of July 29-30.
Amiraslanova told Turan news agency that she was detained at the border control and taken to a separate room where she had been kept for many hours without any explanations. Then, an investigator of the Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office arrived and took Amiraslanova to the prosecutor's office where he interrogated her for about an hour. Then she was released giving a written statement that she would appear for questioning the next day.
On Saturday, Amiraslanova appeared with a lawyer and was questioned as a witness in the matter of issuing false documents for asylum in Europe.
She noted that the prosecutor's office questioned her in the matter of her brother also charged with issuing false documents.
"My brother was detained on the basis of a fabricated accusation - an email from Germany. Since there was no evidence in the matter, it was closed, and my brother released. But we are seeking to get an acquittal, and now the Supreme Court has returned the case to the Court of Appeal on the lawyer's complaint," Amiraslanova said.
She noted that due to the secrecy of the investigation, she could not disclose details of her interrogation. However, she had an impression that the investigation was generally interested in her activities in Germany and her performances.
"Everything I did was transparent. This is my homeland and I have the right to come here. I knew what I could have faced with, yet, I have come anyway, even if I'd be arrested," Amiraslanova said.
"Probably a lot about reasons for my detention will be clarified today," she said.
Amiraslanova pointed out that the prosecutor's office pulled her passport and identity card and a ban on her leaving the country was still in force. "I am ready for any surprises," Amiraslanova noted.
The prosecutor's office could not be reached for comment.–06D-
