Group of Residents of Former Street Sovetskaya Protested in Front of Parliament
Baku/05.03.21/Turan: On March 5, about a hundred residents of the former Sovetskaya street held a protest in front of the parliament building. The reason for the action is non-payment of the compensation promised back in 2014.
The complainants believe that the officials of the executive power and the city hall of the capital, who deceived them, are to blame for their troubles. They ask the country's leadership to investigate and resolve the issue of paying just compensation.
“It is impossible to buy normal housing with the 26-28 thousand manats paid to us,” said one of the participants of the action.
About 30 minutes after the start of the action, the police seated the crowd on buses and took them away from the parliament building.
After that, the complainants gathered again and came to the building of the Ministry of Economic Development, where a delegation of three people was received and listened to.
Let's remind that several quarters of old housing (4500 houses and objects) on the street. Sovetskaya and adjacent streets were demolished in 2014. The territory of 26 hectares was liberated, where the Central Park was created as a recreation area.
Most of the owners did not oppose the demolition and accepted compensation. In the second phase, another 1,920 houses were demolished on an area of 13 hectares.
At both stages, there were people who disagreed with compensation in the amount of 1,500 manats (about $ 900) per square meter. Some of them filed lawsuits, and a small part refused to leave. Some complaints are already pending before the European Court of Human Rights. -0-
