Head of Internet Television Channel 13 Arrested

Baku / 02.05.17 / Turan: Aziz Orujov, the head of the Internet TV Channel 13, was arrested on May 2 for 30 days. The court found him guilty under Article 535.1 (not subordination to the police) of the Administrative Offenses Code. The lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Turan about this.
According to him, Orujov was detained on May 2 morning together with his wife Lamia Orujova, who works at the same television station, by men in civilian clothes. They took them to the Nasimi district police department of Baku.
Later, the police said Orujov was like a man who is wanted.
"We were shown a photo of a wanted person. He is absolutely not like Aziz Orujov. This was just an excuse for the detention of Orujov and for accusing him of not submitting to the police," the lawyer said.

Orujov does not plead guilty. An appeal will be filed against the decision of the court.
Sadigov drew attention to the fact that the arrest of the journalist was held on the eve of World Press Freedom Day celebrated on May 3. And this arrest is directed against freedom of the press, the lawyer said.

Channel 13 was created on October 10, 2008.

Internet television provides a platform for NGOs, human rights and youth activists, politicians and all others who do not have access to other air spaces.

The channel's founder Anar Orujov is in Germany, participating in an educational program. --03B--
