Human Rights Activist Gulaliyev Interrogated in Ministry of Internal Affairs
Baku / 17.04.18 / Turan: The human rights activist Ogtay Gulaliyev was interrogated in the Main Department for Combating Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan as a witness for more than two hours on April 16. "I was interrogated as a witness in a criminal case, with which I have nothing to do," Gulaliyev told Turan.
He was taken a receipt about the non-disclosure of secrets, regarding the questions asked to him.
The human rights activist believes that the call to the MIA was related to his public activities, in particular the protection of the rights of 17-year-old activist Fatima Movlanly.
After the teenager stated on April 14 that she had been abducted and detained in the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC) of the MIA, Gulaliyev appealed to the head of this Department and the Prosecutor General to investigate this.
Movlanly disappeared after the opposition rally on March 31. On April 5, a group of activists announced the launch of a campaign for her release. However, in the evening of the same day, a video message from Movlanly appeared on Facebook. She explained her disappearance for a few days with her stay with a girlfriend because of the friend's health problems, when she decided to turn off her phone.
After the rally on April 14, Movlanly distributed a new video in which she stated that she had been kept in the MDCOC of the MIA for five days, during which they wanted to use her for a provocation against the young activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan.
On April 17, Ilham Hussein, a member of the PFPA Board, and Emil Salimov, the head of the PFPA youth committee, were also summoned to the MDCOC of the MIA.
We have not managed to receive comments on the matter from the MIA. -06d--
