Hunger strike of a convict in the Terter case
Baku/23.08.19/Turan: Orhan Babayev, condemned in the Terter case to 15 years in prison went on hunger strike in jail No.15, reported his father Nariman Babayev, who visited his son in the specified penal institution on August 23.
"Today we met with Orhan. He said that he has been on a hunger strike for five days now because his case was not objectively investigated by the investigation and the courts and, as a result, an unreasonable sentence was passed. After my urgent requests, he stopped the hunger strike. But the son is innocent and can"t put up with unfairness in any way and this negatively affects his psychological state and health," N.Babayev said.
It has not yet been possible to get comments from the Prison Service.
On May 7, 2017, the General Prosecutor's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement in which a detained group of military personnel and civilians were accused of espionage in favor of the Armenian special services.
According to the statement, the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of Armenia prepared a large-scale provocative action against units and settlements of the Azerbaijani army in the Terter region.
On May 3, the military prosecutor's office of Azerbaijan filed a lawsuit under the Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code. A joint investigative team was created consisting of prosecutors, the Ministry of Defense, the Interior and employees of the State Security Service. The detainees were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. During the investigation, at least eight suspects were killed. Subsequently, during the investigation, four of the killed were acquitted, and the investigators who fabricated the charges received up to 7 years in prison. -21B-
