Measures Taken to Protect Emergency Platform from Oil Spills
Measures are taken to prevent possible damage to the ecology of the sea as a result of the accident and fire at the oil field Guneshli. As the press service of the State Oil Company SOCAR said, on Friday there was a meeting of the working group established in connection with the accident at the offshore platform with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Ecology and BP.
Participants of the meeting discussed the possible environmental problems from the accident, the probability of oil spills and the ways to prevent that.
To this end, they decided to conduct daily surveys from the aerospace satellite Azerspace.
To protect the area from possible contamination, it will be blocked by special booms.
Members of the working group flew over the accident site and examined the area. Oil spills are not observed.
At the site there are several ships with modern equipment for oil spill response, SOCAR reported.
Meanwhile, the fire-fighting continues on the offshore platform.
Recall that the fire was the result of an accident on the pipeline because of the gale.
In the course of the rescue operation 33 oilmen were evacuated from the platform and the bodies of 7 others were found. Twenty-three people are still missing and the search for them continues. -06D-
