Migrants from Ukraine to be given preferential stay in Azerbaijan
Baku/10.05.22/Turan: Term of stay of migrants from Ukraine in Azerbaijan will be prolonged. This was announced today by the head of the State Migration Service (SMS) of Azerbaijan Vusal Huseynov.
According to him, after the start of military operations in Ukraine more than 4,200 citizens of this country arrived in Azerbaijan. Total 8,247 Ukrainian citizens are currently in Azerbaijan.
Note that total number of migrants in Azerbaijan is 142,000.
At the same time the number of irregular migrants fluctuates between 3-4,000.
There are a limited number of people in the SMS detention centres who are placed there as last resort.
At present, the number of these persons is less than 10.
Asked from which countries illegal migrants come most frequently, Huseynov responded that as a rule they are from neighbouring states and South-Eastern Asia.
It has to be kept in mind that citizens of the countries with which Azerbaijan has visa-free regime can stay in the country for up to 90 days if they have no special permit for a longer stay. -16D06-
