Military Prosecutor Reports Decline in Crimes in Army
Baku / 05/01/19 / Turan: The number of crimes in the army has decreased significantly, the country's Military Prosecutor Khanlar Veliyev said at a conference in Baku on Tuesday.
For persuasiveness, he compared the situation with the year 1998, declaring a 7-fold reduction in crimes, but without naming specific figures.
According to him, the number of facts of evasion from military service (33%), unauthorized abandonment of the duty station (29%), and also desertion has significantly decreased.
The number of crimes related to bullying in the army has halved.
Compared with 1998, the number of abuses of power decreased by 36%, the number of murders decreased by 5 times, and the number of suicides decreased by half.
Why Veliyev decided to evaluate his achievements, comparing with the situation 20 years ago, he did not explain.
In addition, for some reason, the military prosecutor disregarded such a serious fact as allegations of betrayal by a group of servicemen in the Terter region in 2016, according to which dozens of people were arrested. According to human rights activists, 8 of those arrested were killed during the investigation, and at least four of them were found innocent. -05D-
