
Baku/20.09.13/Turan : MNS made a presentation on the case of Parviz Hashimli, an employee of "Bizim Yol" newspaper and the site moderator.az , who was arrested on September 17.
According to the press release, a native of the village Zor of Kelbajar region, Tavakkul Qurbanov, in preliminary agreement with the citizens of Iran Reza and Hussein and other persons whose identities are being established by investigation, imported a large number of firearms and ammunition from Iran to Azerbaijan in order to sell.
At the instruction of other citizen of Iran, Reza Hossein, on September 17 smuggled weapons and ammunition from Iran to Azerbaijan, and handed them to Gurbanov in Bilasuvar region, and received from Gurbanov $12,000 dollars from 15,000 passed him by Hashimli , and the remaining $3,000 he left for himself as payment for the service.
Qurbanov hid weapons in his car, and brought to Baku. However , as a result of comprehensive measures taken by the MNS on September 17, Gurbanov’s car was detained; and Hashimli also was in car.
There were six Makarov pistols, six stores and 40 rounds of 9 mm caliber in the car. As evidence were confiscated 2,800 U.S. dollars of the $3,000 which Hashimli gave Gurbanov.
However, Hashimli previously denied the allegations, calling them rigged and politically motivated.
Hashimli is also a member of the Popular Front, and runs the Center to protect political and civil rights.—16В--
