Number of Drug Addicts Decreased
In the past year, due to the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the State Customs Committee, the State Security Service, the Frontier Service and the Penitentiary Service of the Justice Ministry 1,127 kg and 395.322 grams of various drugs were arrested and more than 12 thousand hemp bushes were destroyed. This information is reflected in the report of the Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking. The report dealt with the theme of drug control for 2015.
The document says that among the confiscated drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors there was about 698 kg of marijuana, a little more than 240 kg of opium, 80 kg of heroin, about 58 kg of hashish, 62.385 grams of cocaine, 50 kg of psychotropic substances, 1,750 tablets, as well as 12,689 cannabis bushes.
During the year, law enforcement agencies identified 3,187 facts. Of these, 916 were facts relating to the acquisition, storage, transportation and sales. 2,062 facts were illegal possession of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors without the purpose of sale, 193 facts regarded the cultivation of narcotic plants, and there were 16 others.
During the year 2,587 people were prosecuted. Of these seven were up to 18 years old, 565 people were up to 30 years old, 2,015 - more than 30 years old. Social status of the arrested was as follows: 18 workers, 7 employees, 2 transport employees, 2 students, and 2,261 unemployed.. Among the detainees there were 2,535 men and 52 women.
From the prosecuted there were 57 foreigners, from whom more than 65 kg of various narcotics were seized. Of these there were 31 citizens of Iran, 20 – of Georgia, 2 – of Turkey, 2 – of Ukraine, 1 – of Russia, and 1 – of Turkmenistan.
The report noted that last year the Republican Drug Treatment Centre of the Ministry of Health removed 2,118 people from the register. Of these, 1,331 were medically checked and 787 underwent preventive treatment. 2,017 drug addicts were registered. Thus, the country's total number of drug addicts has decreased by 101 people, amounting to 28,555.
Recall that in 2007 the Republican Drug Treatment Centre had 20,205 people registered, in 2008 – 22,394 people, in 2009 – 23,927, in 2010 – 25,489, in 2011 – 26,716, in 2012 – 27,910, in 2013 – 28,376, in 2014 – 28,656. –0--
