Baku / 27.05.18 / Turan: Another activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ramiz Kamal (Ahadov) was detained in the evening on Saturday. He was taken from his home. As PFPA reported, Ramiz Kamal was detained in the framework of the criminal investigation into "money laundering".
In recent years Ramiz Kamal's party function was the delivery of food parcels to political prisoners in jail.
On Saturday, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs accused PFPA of receiving illegal financial assistance and involvement in money laundering. The PFPA activists Aghil Maharramov, Ruslan Nasirli and Babek Hasanov were arrested due to this case.
According to the investigation, through these people the PFPA leadership received money sent from Russia by the businessman Saleh Rustamov, which was allegedly collected from Azerbaijani entrepreneurs there. Saleh Rustamov and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli were arrested respectively on 8 and 10 May.
The PFPA leader, Ali Kerimli, called the charges of money laundering and the transfer of 412,000 US dollars to the party by the arrested people groundless. According to him, Saleh Rustamov is his friend and provided him with financial support several times, with a total sum not exceeding 5,000 US dollars, and these funds were used to help the families of political prisoners. -06D--
