One of seven women subjected to violence
A presentation of the project: "Social and economic support for victims of domestic violence and awareness rising on gender issues" was held at the Park Inn today.
The project is implemented by the Azerbaijan Lawyers Confederation (headed by Ali Huseynli) with the assistance of the EU, UNDP and IOM.
The two-year pilot project is expected to create a support center in Khachmaz on the shelter existing there.
According to the Secretary General of the Confederation Kamal Jafarov, each of the seven women in Azerbaijan is subjected to domestic violence. In Azerbaijan, as in 89 countries was adopted (in 2010) the law "On combating domestic violence."
As part of this project there will be conducted training and educational work.
Thirty women victims of domestic violence will be placed at the support center and will undergo training on professional development and business opportunities. Later they will be given small grants to help them gain some financial independence. In total, the project will cover 2,000 women, which will receive education on their rights.
1% of women are turning to the state authorities for help in connection with domestic violence. However, this support is not effective. For the employees of these services training will be also held to improve skills.
The presentation was attended by the head of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Hijran Huseynova, MP Rabiyat Aslanova, the head of the EU mission in Azerbaijan Roland Kobia, as well as the UNDP Resident Coordinator Antonius Broek.
Views were expressed about the need to combat domestic violence, the presence of domestic violence around the world, the ineffectiveness of the fight, even with the laws required and about the need to involve the public in this process. -04C-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
