Opposition activist Agyl Gumbatov detained
Baku/12.08.21/Turan: Agyl Gumbatov, an activist of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), was detained within the context of a certain criminal offense, his wife Aygun Gumbatova told Turan.
According to her, on August 11, in the evening, Agyl came home, dined, left and never returned.
At night, the wife received a call from the Khazar police department as saying that the activist was detained "on suspicion of committing a criminal offense." "But they did not say what Agyl had been suspected of," the wife added.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed Turan that Gumbatov had really been detained. "He was detained on August 11 in the village of Zyra due to the stabbing of a local resident Yamen Mammadov because of a personal conflict. An investigation is currently underway," the press-service said.
Added to this can be that Agyl Gumbatov has already been persecuted before.
Thus. in March 2019, he was detained for 15 days after his video address to the management complaining against his dismissal for political reasons.
In March 2020, after a similar video message, Gumbatov was sent to a mental hospital for compulsory treatment from where he was discharged three months later.—06D-
