Pardon Commission Completes Consideration of Applications
Baku / 18.05.18 / Turan: Yesterday the Azerbaijani President's Pardon Commission examined 100 more appeals. Thus, the Commission has completed consideration of appeals received by this structure since February.
A total of 1,100 appeals were considered, Alimammad Nuriyev, a member of the Commission, told Turan.
According to him, for a large number of appeals, the Commission issued a positive opinion. This list will be presented to the head of state.
However, the question of who will be pardoned is the exclusive prerogative of the President.
Nuriyev did not rule out that the pardon will be carried out on the eve of the Republic Day celebrated on May 28.
According to different lists of human rights defenders, the number of political prisoners is from 140 to 160 people. It is not yet known how many of them have applied. -03D06-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
