Participants of the" Karabakh action" received a suspended sentence
Baku/14.06.21/Turan: On June 14, a trial of persons arrested for participating in a street demonstration in support of the army on July 14-15, 2020, was over at the Baku Court of Appeal chaired by judge Agamala Gafarov of the Sabail district.
In total, there are 36 defendants in the case who are divided into three groups of 12 persons each. At today's meeting, a verdict of the first group of 12 defendants in the case was been announced.
The court sentenced members of the Presidium of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) Mammad Ibrahim and Fuad Gahramanli to 4 years, 1 month, 17 days of imprisonment on probation for 3.5 years.
Two other members of the PPFA Presidium - Bakhtiyar Imanov and Ayaz Magerramli went to prison for 3 years, 7 months and 13 days of imprisonment on probation for 3 years.
Note that other accused, including two members of the Moslem Unity Movement - Tural Veliyev and Elchin Mammadov, were also sentenced to 2 years and 7 months of suspended imprisonment for probation period of 2.5 years.
All convicted persons were found guilty under Articles 127 (intentional infliction of light bodily harm), 186 (damage or destruction of other people's property), 233 (violation of public order) and 315 (use of force against a police officer) of the Criminal Code.
None of the convicts pleaded guilty. The prosecutor previously proposed to sentence all persons involved in the case to a suspended sentence.
*On July 14, 2020, in the evening, thousands of people began a spontaneous demonstration in Baku demanding to start a war for the liberation of Karabakh. The march lasted all night and ended only in the early morning of July 15. Some of the demonstrators entered the parliament building and caused damage to the premises.-03D06-
