PFPA Activists Detained for Participation in Protest
Baku / 20.08.18 / Turan: A group of activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) was detained on August 20 for holding a protest against not allowing the arrested members of this organization to meet with members of their families.
The action was held near the metro station Elmlyar Akademiyasi. Its participants raised portraits of arrested activists of the Popular Front Party Aghil Maharramov, Ruslan Nasirli and Babek Hasanov.
Participants of the action Nijat Abdullazadeh, Bashir Tarverdiyev, Ramin Ahmadov and Ruslan Gurbanli were taken to the 28th branch of the Yasamal district police department, the party's press service reported.
Gurbanly was released later. The other three, according to the PFPA, will be taken to court on August 21.
* On May 25, the PFPA activists Aghil Maharramov, Ruslan Nasirli and Babek Hasanov were arrested. They were prosecuted together with the former head of the Gadabay region Saleh Rustamov and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli. They were accused of "laundering dirty money", which was expressed in the transfer of donations collected from Azerbaijani businessmen in Russia to PFPA.
The accused are recognized as political prisoners by human rights activists. -03B06-
