Polad Aslanov's wife speaks about new provocations against him in jail
Baku/19.04.22/Turan: Provocations against journalist Polad Aslanov in jail N1 continue, his wife Gulmira Aslanova said on Tuesday. “Today, Polad received a call from a cellmate who hit Polad 20 days ago, insulting and provoking him again. I informed the office of the ombudsman and the “hot line” of the Ministry of Justice,” she said.
However, the Prison Service does not issue permission to the Nizami prosecutor's office to investigate Polad's complaint. The penitentiary service deliberately creates conditions for Polad to be beaten and humiliated again, she said.
In early April, Aslanova announced that her husband had been beaten by a cellmate who, she believes, is collaborating with the prison administration. After holding two protests, she was invited to the Nizami District Prosecutor's Office on April 9 and assured that the complaint would be investigated.
The founder and head of xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov, was arrested in June 2019 on charges of treason and sentenced to 16 years in prison. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. On February 24, the Supreme Court reduced his sentence to 13 years.—06B-
