Police detained animal protection protesters and beat journalists
Baku / 27.08.20 / Turan: On Thursday the police stopped the action of animal defenders in the Narimanov district of the capital, detaining two of its participants.
The action was held in connection with the killing of six stray dogs in the area of abandoned construction sites near Ziya Bunyatov Avenue, not far from the hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the organizer of the action Nijat Ismayilov, the dogs were vaccinated, neutered, healthy and did not pose a threat to others. Volunteers periodically fed them.
According to Ismayilov, the dogs were killed by the staff of the Center for the Care of Homeless Dogs, who came to this place twice.
Ismayilov climbed onto one of the unfinished buildings and unfurled a poster with the slogan "Don't kill us!" However, plainclothes and police officers detained Ismayilov and another activist who came out in his defense.
At the same time, the police put physical pressure on the journalists who covered the action.
The police tried to take away the photo and video equipment, beat and pushed the journalists. –30D06-
