Preliminary Investigation into Faig Amirovs Case Over
Baku / 17.04.17 / Turan: Preliminary investigation into the case of the financial director of the Azadliq newspaper Faig Amirov has been completed, his lawyer Fakhraddin Mehtiyev told Turan.
According to him, next week lawyers will get acquainted with the case materials and after that the case will be sent to the Baku Court for Grave Crimes.
April 17 Amirov faced new charges, in particular on articles 213.1 (evasion from payment of taxes) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Recall that Amirov was detained on August 20, 2016. He was charged with inciting inter-religious strife. In particular, Amirov was presented by the investigation as an Imam of the movement Hizmet, which is accused of terrorism and attempted coup in Turkey. Amirov rejected these accusations as far-fetched.
After the arrest of Amirov, the issue of the newspaper Azadlig was terminated. The bank serving the newspaper refused to recognize the authority of other employees of the newspaper Azadliq.
After Amirov's arrest, a tax audit of activities for the period from 2010-2016 was arranged in the newspaper's editorial office.
The majority of employees of the newspaper Azadliq were summoned for interrogation to the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office. Some of them had to leave the country. -B06--
