"Press Council" suspends issuance of waistcoats labelled "PRESS".
Baku/31.10.23/Turan: The Press Council has suspended the issuance of waistcoats labelled "PRESS". The decision is motivated by the fact that some media workers are using fake waistcoats allegedly issued by the "Press Council".
"The waistcoats were issued to newsrooms based on written requests. However, this has created an opportunity for random people carrying out media activities to acquire the waistcoats. Therefore, the issuance of waistcoats has been suspended," the Press Council said in a statement.
The waistcoats labelled "PRESS" are designed to identify journalists during mass actions and extreme situations and should not be used for purposes unrelated to media activities. This contradicts not only the Code of Ethical Behaviour of Journalists, but also gives rise to legal liability.
The Council reported on the preparation of new versions of PRESS waistcoats and rules for their issuance to newsrooms. The new conditions for granting the waistcoats will be made public soon, it said. -03B06-
