Prosecutor's Office Promises Close Communication with Defense of Human Rights Activist O. Gyulalyev
Baku / 03.07.20 / Turan: Fuad Agayev, the lawyer of the human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev and the representative of the Gyulalyev family, director of the Turan news agency Mehman Aliyev were received by Hasan Hanifayev, the newly appointed prosecutor of the Nasimi district, on June 3.
At the meeting, Gyulalyev’s representatives were informed about the progress of the investigation and the recent actions of the prosecutor's office. In particular, instructions were given to satisfy all the motions put forward by Gyulalyev’s defense.
The prosecutor said the investigation is interested in a full restoration of the picture of what happened and a fair verdict in this case. To this end, further steps will be taken, said Khanifayev.
Mehman Aliyev noted that the case of the well-known human rights activist Gyulalyev received a wide response and is in the center of public attention, and therefore it is necessary to ensure maximum transparency and public awareness in order to avoid rumors and insinuations. And law enforcement agencies should also be interested in this.
The meeting addressed a number of procedural issues related to the human rights activist Gyulalyev case.
In the interests of the investigation, the prosecutor instructed the officers conducting the Gyulalyev case to continue to ensure close communication with the victim's defense.
Recall that Oktay Gyulalyev was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in the center of Baku on October 29, 2019. He was taken to hospital, but the operation was only done on October 31 in a private clinic by surgeons of the Republican Neurosurgical Hospital.
On November 5, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, he was sent to the Eurasian Clinic in Istanbul, and since November 20, his treatment has continued at the American Clinic of Istanbul. Since October 29, 2019, he has been in a coma. -05D-
