Protest in the center of Baku (VIDEO)
Baku / 07.29.19 / Turan: About 20 activists held a protest action at noon in Central Park ("Winter Boulevard") demanding the release of political prisoners.
They made an unauthorized march, chanting: "Freedom to Azad Hasanov!", "Free political prisoner! ". Eight minutes after the start of the action, the police arrived distanced the participants of the demonstration from the park, and detained several people.
The detained during the rally: the head of the Musavat youth committee, Elman Guliyev, and others party members - Alikram Khurshudov and Tahir Akhundov, as well as reporters Nurlan Gahramanova and Fatima Movlamly were taken to the 21st police department of the Nasimi district.
The rally was held after the next court hearing in the case of Azad Hasanov, the activist "Musavat", who has been on a hunger strike for eight days in protest against his arrest. The trial is underway for more than six months. Today, five minutes after the start the trial was again postponed to late term.
He was in political emigration in Lithuania since 2014. On October 11, 2018, he returned to Baku due to a serious illness of his father and on the same day was arrested. He was charged under the Article 4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code. Human rights advocates recognized him as political prisoners.-21B06-

An online meeting of civil society activists focused on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan, convened on the initiative of the Justice Solidarity Committee, highlighted significant concerns over the detention of journalists, political activists, and opponents of the war. The gathering, held on August 30, coincided with the International Day of Remembrance of the Missing and underscored the ongoing challenges facing both Azerbaijani and Armenian societies in the wake of the Karabakh conflicts.

A fire has erupted at the Experimental and Testing Production of the Scientific Research Institute of SOCAR (the state oil company) in the Surakhani district of Baku, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. "Thanks to the urgent and necessary measures taken by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the spread of the fire to neighboring areas, including nearby residential buildings, has been prevented," the statement reads. Efforts to extinguish the fire are still ongoing.
