Baku/17.03.23/Turan: Relatives of Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli missing in Iran held on March 17 a protest in front of the Iranian Embassy in Baku.

They held placards: "Bring back Farid!", "Give information about Farid!" and chanted slogans demanding the release of Safarli.

Relatives said that when Safarli left for Iran, he did not inform anyone about it but his friends.

"He went there because of his lover. Since March 4, communication with him has been cut off," said one of the protesters.

According to Ilgar Huseinli, head of the Safarli Rights Protection Committee, Dilara Askerova, Safarli's mother who lives in Germany, visited the Iranian Embassy in Berlin.

"There, she was told that the local authorities are looking into the matter. The German police are also investigating. However, Iranian authorities, despite the best efforts of Farid's relatives, are not providing any information about Farid's whereabouts and fate," Huseinli said.

The protesters demanded that the Iranian government answer the questions raised and allow Safarli to contact his family.

The rally was held without incident.

Earlier, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Iranian Embassy to clarify the situation due to the information about disappearance of Farid Safarli in that country. -06В-
