Religious activists tell about police torture
Baku/23.05.22/Turan: On Monday, a press conference was held at the office of the Liniya Zashchita NGO in connection with violations of the rights of believers detained on May 20 in front of the Baku Serious Crimes Court.
Three of them: Agali Yahyaev, Imran Mammadli and Elgiz Mammadov were administratively arrested for 30 days.
Yahyaev's sister Elnara Eldar said that her brother simply came to the trial of religious activist Razi Humbatov. The police began to push out those gathered in front of the court, and her brother involuntarily pushed the policeman's hand away. “There was no resistance to the police, but a reflexive reaction,” she said.
Two of them - Mail Karimli and Suleiman Alekperov managed to avoid arrest. However, they were taken from the 22nd department of the Nasimi police in Baku to another department, where they were tortured.
“I was handcuffed and treated like a hardened criminal. When they were transporting me in a car, they beat me with a bag on my head. The beatings continued even where they were taken. Only after that I said on camera that I would no longer go to courts, they took me out and left me in a wasteland, ”said Karimli.
A similar thing happened with Alekperov. “I am well versed in the roads and I believe that they brought me to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Putting a bag over his head, they beat him in the face. When they undressed me and threw me on the floor, I said that I had a bad heart, I felt bad. However, they began to beat even more.
They demanded to take an “oath” that I would no longer go to court. After that, they took him out and released him in a remote place,” Alekperov said.
According to Rufat Safarov, head of the Line of Defense NGO, Elchin Gasimov, deputy chairman of the Muslim Unity Movement, was summoned to the 14th department of the Sabunchu police today so that he could not participate in a press conference.
Safarov condemned the actions of the security forces, regarding their actions as arbitrariness and a violation of the fundamental freedoms of citizens. –30В06-
