Residents of Sovetskaya Street Complain about Unfair Compensation
Baku / 11.08.20 / Turan: A group of former residents of the former Soviet Street on August 11 tried to hold a protest at the place where their houses stood. They complained about unfair compensation paid upon their resettlement in December 2018.
“We were evicted from this place in 2018, and at the same time, the area of our houses was underestimated. My house was 100 sq. m, and also a yard of 3.5 acres, and I was paid only 94 thousand manats. The real cost of the house and land was 1 million manats,” Kamalya Abdullayeva said.
Later, the authorities promised them an additional payment of 500 manats per square meter, but they received only 180-250 manats. “At the same time, we didn’t receive about 15,000 manats,” she said.
People were forced to live in rented apartments, but they were not given money for this. In general, the money was not given out immediately, but in parts, the protesters said.
The arriving police forces demanded that the assembled people disperse. The action ended without incident. –06D-
