Seven years after the human rights activist allowed to leave Azerbaijan
Baku / 20.08.18 / Turan: Human rights defender ,Ogtay Gyulaliyev, after seven-year ban on foreign trips, was able to leave the country today, he himself reported this. On August 20 Gyulaliyev left for Georgia.
"For seven years now, there has been a "stop" for my departure from Azerbaijan. Finally, after seven years I was finally allowed to leave," he said. The activist said that the ban against him was illegal.
"A trumped-up lawsuit was filed against me. Therefore, for a long time I could not get a passport. An illegal ban was imposed on my leaving the country," said Gyulaliyev, coordinator of the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners and head of the Alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners".
He was arrested in 2012 in the Sabirabad region when he spoke in defense of the rights of the local population who protested against not paying fair compensation for damage caused by flooding on the Kura River. He was threatened with up to 3 years of imprisonment on charges of inciting to disorder. However, a few months later he was released, but the case remained open for a long time. -06D--
