Sheikh threatens to punish religious figures for taking part in opposition rallies
Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) called on religious leaders not to take part in opposition rallies. "We regard as a provocation the calls for religious leaders to participate in actions for the purpose of confrontation and destabilization of the situation. This is contrary to the laws of Azerbaijan "On political parties", "On Freedom of Assembly" on the eve of an important event in our country - a referendum.
The law "On freedom of religion" says that religious organizations do not participate in political parties.
If the religious leaders representing the CMO and their representatives take part in political activities of the opposition, it will be considered a violation of the law. The measure of responsibility according to the law and the Charter of CMD "will be taken against them, reads a statement.
The arrested the leader of the Muslim Unity Movement Thale Bagirzade called on to participate in an authorized rally organized by the National Council. According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, the right to freedom of assembly is an inalienable right of all the citizens of Azerbaijan, irrespective of religion, nationality, race. -06D--
