Site manager sentenced to 3.5 years for blackmail
Baku/18.01.22/Turan: The founder of the Azadinfo.az website, Mahir Alekperov, was sentenced on Tuesday by the Nasimi District Court to 3 years and 6 months in prison. During the trial chaired by Azer Tagiyev, Mahir Alekperov was found guilty under Article 182.1 (extortion) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. Previously, the law enforcement agencies reported that Alekperov was accused of distributing intimate videos about the leader of the Binagadi regional organization of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party, Ramiz Geyushov. At the same time, before distributing the video, Alekperov extorted 2,000 manats from Geyushev. On September 8, 2022, Alekperov was detained.
As for the victim, Ramiz Geyushev was expelled from the party for compromising the authorities.—06B-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
