Snowy frosty weather will continue in Azerbaijan until January 12
Baku/09.01.23/Turan: Snowfalls have been falling on the territory of Azerbaijan since January 8, the temperature has dropped sharply. According to Asif Verdiyev, director of the hydrological center of the National Hydrometeorology Service, the thickness of the snow cover in various regions ranged from 2 to 30 cm.
In Baku, the height of the snow cover was 2 cm, Sumgayit – 8 cm, Guba – 20 cm, Ismayilli – 30 cm.
The minimum air temperature in Baku and Absheron was -2 degree of frost, in mountainous areas – 14 - 17 degree of frost; in lowland – 3 degree of frost.
Owing to the bad weather conditions, numerous cars were stuck on the country's highways, accidents occurred.
According to the interior Ministry, on January 7-8, 22 road accidents occurred in the Gusar, Guba and Khachmaz regions, following which 2 people were injured, 69 cars damaged.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations warned the population that under conditions of a sharp cold snap, the use of faulty and non-standard gas and electric heaters can cause fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Forecasters predict the continuation of snowy, frosty weather until January 12. -03B06-
