Baku/02.08.22/ Turan: On August 2, the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations (SCWRS) starts a competition to fill vacant positions of heads of mosques and places of worship.
270 candidates applied for 39 vacancies. A commission of seven theologians will interview them in the building of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology. The results of the competition will be published within five days on the SCWRA website (https://scwra.gov.az/az).
Candidates who successfully pass the interview will be appointed by them by order of the head of the SSCC within 30 days.
The chairman of the commission is the deputy chairman of the State Committee for the Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Gunduz Ismayilov.
It should be noted that the authority to appoint leading clerics was transferred from the Caucasus Muslims Office to the State Committee in connection with amendments to the legislation in February 2022. --05D06---

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has not been invited to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled in Azerbaijan for September 1. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Aykhan Hacizade, stated that invitations have been sent to seven international organizations: the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, GUAM, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States.

A new group of migrants from the Garadagh district of Baku has arrived in the city of Shusha, the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons reported. Seventy-nine Shusha residents, comprising 21 families, have returned to their hometown.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan has informed Elhan Shainoglu, a political scientist and head of the Atlas Analytical Center, that his candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections has been rejected. Shainoglu disclosed the decision via social media platform X, stating that the CEC notified him by phone, just 30 minutes before the expiration of the seven-day response period.
