The court accepted the lawyer's counterclaim against the Bar Association
Baku / 11.18.12 / Turan: Lawyer Yalcin Imanov appealed to the Baku Administrative and Economic Court N 1 with a lawsuit against the presidium of the Bar of Azerbaijan. He asks to cancel the decision of the presidium on the termination of his advocacy. Earlier, the Board appealed to the Ganja Administrative and Economic Court for approval of the decision on the termination of Imanov"s powers. In response, Imanov filed a counterclaim, which, however, was rejected under the pretext that it was incorrectly executed.
"Taking into account the observations of the court, I filed a new complaint to the Baku Administrative and Economic Court N1. I believe that there were no grounds for termination of my powers," the lawyer said. His complaint is accepted and the first trial is scheduled for October 19.
The powers of Imanov were terminated on the basis of the appeal of the management of the Prison Service. The reason for this was the fact that Imanov publicized in the media the complaints of his client, an activist of the Muslim Unity Movement, Abbas Huseynov, who had declared torture in Gobustan prison. The Board found in this a violation of "advocacy."
Imanov is known for his participation in the defense of many political prisoners and his active citizenship. He is among those lawyers who were suspended from work specifically for rendering legal assistance to opposition members, journalists and civil society activists who are being persecuted by the authorities. -06D-

By that night, however, the mysterious visitor had departed, loaded onto a cargo platform and whisked away to the airport.
