The court will rule in the case of Rauf Mirkadirov on March 17
On Wednesday the Court of Appeal considered the complaint of the convicted journalist Rauf Mirkadirov on the decision of the Court of First Instance of his imprisonment on charges of treason. Today at the trial held behind closed doors spoke Mirkadirov; he pleaded not guilty, and asked the court to acquit him.
However, the state prosecutor asked the court to uphold the decision of the trial court.
The court retired to consider declaring that the decision will be read out on March 17 at 11:00 am.
Mother of the journalist Rafiga Mirkadirova said that on 4 March she sent a telegram to the head of state to pardon her son. The answer to his appeal has not been received, but she does not lose hope that Rauf will be released.
* Mirkadyrov Rauf was arrested in April 2014 on charges of espionage in favor of Armenia, and last December he was sentenced to six years in prison. The journalist denies the charges. His colleagues believe that Mirkadirov is persecuted on trumped-up charges with a view to blame the country's civil society in anti-state activities. -02B-
