The ECHR pronounced a verdict on complaints of Tofig Yagublu
Baku/15.07.21 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights today pronounced its verdict on two complaints of opposition politician Tofigayagublu.
It should be remembered vthat the complaints were related to administrative penalties imposed on Tofig Yagublu in 2012 due to his protest actions, lawyer Khalid Agaliyev said.
The ECHR recognized violations of Yagublu's rights under Articles 5 (right to personal freedom and inviolability) and 6 (fair trial) and awarded him a monetary compensation for 8, 000 euros. Another 1, 000 euros Yagublu will receive to reimburse his court costs.
The complaints were related to the detention of Yagublu by the police on 24 and 25 May 2012.
Thus, on May 24, a member of the Musavat party, Yagublu was detained in the Surakhani district of Baku the day before the protest action and was fined 20 manats.
Note that the next day, on May 25, Yagublu was again detained along with his son near the Sahil metro station. This time, he was kept at the police department within 24 hours and released with penalty of 20 manats.
It should be added that Yagublu appealed against the actions of the police in local courts. However, his complaints were not addressed.-16d-
