The investigation wants to extend the term of arrest of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
Baku /20.01.23/ Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev continues his hunger strike for the 12th day. On January 20, lawyer Javad Javadov met with him in Baku Detention Center No. 1.
“Despite the fact that we, lawyers, asked him to stop the hunger strike, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev said that he insisted on continuing the action until the injustice against him was eliminated. A hunger strike can cause irreparable damage to his health. Bakhtiyar is getting weaker every day. Over the past 24 hours, he lost another kilogram, his blood pressure dropped and today it was 85/55, his pulse was 66, his body temperature was 36.1 Celsius,” the lawyer told Turan.
Moreover, according to the lawyer, at a certain stage Hajiyev may go on a dry hunger strike.
In turn, human rights activist Rufat Safarov told Turan that on January 21, the Khatai District Court would consider the investigator's petition to extend Hajiyev's detention until February 28.
“Instead of worrying about the health of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who, after an unjustified arrest, went on long hunger strikes twice and is now in a serious condition, the investigation wants to extend the term of arrest. There are enough grounds not only to choose an alternative measure of restraint, but also to close the case on exculpatory grounds,” Safarov said.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release from custody. On the evening of December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent appeals from the public figures and his family. However, on January 9, Hajiyev resumed his hunger strike, after the appeal court once again rejected his complaint about the arrest. -03B06-
