The prosecutor asks to sentence the convicted ex-head of the International Bank to 17 years
Baku/29.08.19/Turan: In the Baku Serious Crimes Court in the case of Jahangir Hajiyev, the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan" (IBA), ex-deputy Dunyamin Khalilov and another 19 accused the prosecutor read the final statement.
The state prosecutor proposed to sentence Hajiyev in conjunction with his previous punishment to 17 years;
Khalilov, together with the previous punishment - to nine months of imprisonment;
Hajiyev"s brother-in-law, Ismail Idayatzadeh - to six in prison.
For the rest, the prosecutor asked for a conditional sentence.
* Hajiyev was arrested on December 5, 2015, and the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison. He and seven others were found guilty of abuse, fraud causing major damage, appropriation and waste, abuse of power, giving a bribe.
At the end of December 2018, the Prosecutor General"s Office reported charges against Hajiyev in a new case under the Articles on appropriation of a large amount of money, money laundering, criminally obtained, tax evasion, etc.
He is charged with the conclusion of transactions on the purchase/sale of no real value bills totaling 3.4 billion dollars and 987 million euros. Hajiyev and Khalilov rejected the accusation -16C-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
