Baku/09.08.22/Turan: Today,  Nurana Ashurova, the wife of activist Samir Ashurov, who was arrested after being expelled from Germany,  held a solitary protest in front of the UN office in Azerbaijan, and then in front of the building of presidential administration. She said that her husband was arrested on trumped-up charges of assault and wounding a person. Later, the investigation also accused him of "hooliganism."

The political order to arrest her husband comes from the leadership of the country and is connected with the participation of Samir Ashurov in protests in Germany "against the ruling regime in Azerbaijan."

She noted that in detention, her husband is  being subjected to psychological pressure and he is blackmailed with provocations against family members. The police watched the actions of N. Ashurova but did not intervene.

* Samir Ashurov was expelled from Germany on March 29 of this year, and 20 days later he was detained by the police in Baku. He was accused of inflicting a knife wound on  Elshan Nabiev (Article 126.2.4 of the Criminal Code - Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm out of hooligan motives). Ashurov  can be imprisoned from 6 to 11 years.

On July 21, Ashurov was charged under another Article of the Criminal Code - 221.3 (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon or an object used as a weapon) of the Criminal Code. Human rights activists recognized Ashurov as a "political prisoner". --30В06--
