Lachin border checkpoint
Two Armenian convoys ready to move to the Khakari River
Baku/09.08.23/Turan: On 9 August, Armenians of Karabakh and Armenia intend to move in two convoys from Yerevan and Khankiandi to the border post on the Khakari River to hold a joint action against the closure of the Lachin road for the transport of goods and passengers. Official Baku offers Armenians to transport goods on the Agdam road, which is open to them, but the Armenians have placed concrete blocks on it, thus organising a self-blockade of the Armenian-populated part of Karabakh.
About 200 people are expected to take part in the action, with about 100 participants in each column. The Armenian government and the de facto leadership of the Karabakh separatists are not involved in the organisation of the rallies, but do not prevent them from taking place. On 8 August in Yerevan, police detained and soon released activists who had disturbed public peace by demanding that Pashinyan act to unblock the Lachin road.
From Yerevan to Kornidzor, the last Armenian settlement before the Azerbaijani border, the convoy will reach unhindered and join the 21 lorry loads of food for Armenians standing there for about half a month. But the movement of the convoy from Khankiandi is difficult, as there is an Azerbaijani police checkpoint on the road between Khankiandi and Shusha.
Russian peacekeepers refused to escort group of Armenians on motor rally.
According to Artur Osipyan, the organiser of the Khankiandi convoy and Chairman of the Dashnaktsutyun Revolutionary Party, the Armenian political forces condemning him do not offer a way out of the difficult situation. He believes that billionaire and former Karabakh official Ruben Vardanyan intends, playing with the emotions of Armenians in Karabakh, to go to Armenia and solve the issue of his power there.
"These political forces are trying in every possible way to lead our initiative to failure without offering anything in return. One of the existing five parties says 'let's surrender to Azerbaijan', the others are sorry leading Nagorno-Karabakh to starvation, they have no concrete proposal, they have nothing to do. I appeal to them, I appeal to Ruben Vardanyan and his team: please tell me what to do instead of the procession?".
The organisers of the two rallies promise that they will not cross the lines of contact. They fear that Azerbaijan may organise a retaliatory car rally of Azerbaijanis and reach the territories controlled by the Armenian side.
Official Baku has not commented on Armenian plans to hold two counter protests.-0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
