UFPPA unveils a new list of 135 political prisoners
Baku / 06.11.19 / Turan: The Union for "Freedom to Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" (UFPPA) today released an updated list of persons convicted of political reasons. There are 135 names in this list.
Two believers and a human rights activist Aliabbas Rustamov were released from the previous list of 117 people released in early September, organization coordinator Elshan Hasanov told Turan.
The list was supplemented by the Popular Front Party activist Pasha Umudov, who was arrested last month on charges of drug trafficking and 20 new people involved in the “Ganja Case”, who were sentenced over the past period.
135 political prisoners who are classified in seven groups.
The group "journalists and bloggers" - six people.
The list of "members of opposition parties and movements" - seven people.
In the category of “victims of crimes in the MNS”, three people are convicts in the case of “Sayid Dadashbeyli Group”.
Emin Sagiev, who was arrested due to the opposition journalistic activities of her sister’s husband, Turkel Azertyurk, who lives in migration in Europe, is recognized as a “political hostage”.
The largest number of names in the Believers group is 53.
The number of political prisoners in the Ganja case has increased. If in the previous list of September 2019 there were 31 people, now it is 51.
In the group of "life-long prisoners" remain 14 people.
*UFPPA was established at the end of 2018 by the director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus, the head of the Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners Elshan Hasanov, human rights activist Hilal Mammadov and the chair of the Council of Intelligence of Azerbaijan Eldaniz Guliyev. -06D--
