Zamin Salaev continues hunger strike in pre-trial detention center for 55 days
Baku/04.02.23/Turan: Chairman of the Salyan branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Zamin has been on hunger strike for 55 days in the Baku pre-trial detention center. He states that he was arrested on false charges and demands his release.
Lawyer Nemat Karimli spoke to him on the phone on April 1.
“Zamin Salaev continues his hunger strike. He seemed to be in despair. His health is in critical condition. Blood pressure is very low, heart bullets are weak. He has severe pain in his back and head. He no longer has the strength to move, he is too weak,” Turan’s lawyer said.
According to him, despite the 55-day hunger strike, Salaev has not yet been transferred to the medical unit of the isolation ward.
“There is practically no medical supervision of him. Only when Zamin Salaev's condition worsens sharply, a doctor comes to him and then after 3-5 hours," the lawyer said.
According to Karimli, representatives of the Ombudsman visited Salaev twice, and despite their appeal to the prosecutor's office and the Penitentiary Service, there were no changes in their attitude towards Salaev.
According to the lawyer, the investigation against Zamin Salaev is nearing completion.
On March 30, the Garadagh District Court denied Zamin Salayev's request for house arrest. The lawyer said that on April 3 he would file an appeal against the court decision.
On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku decided to place Zamin Salayev in custody for three months.
A criminal case was initiated against him under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code
Azerbaijan (hooliganism - the use of force against the victim with the use of weapons or objects used as weapons). If the charge is proven, the activist faces up to 5 years in prison.
As previously reported in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Salaev is suspected of stabbing a man.
Zamin Salaev stated in court that the accusation against him was false and he was slandered.-03b06-
