The year after the Ganja events: suspicious moments and unanswered questions

Although a year has passed since the events of July 10, 2018 in Ganja, some interesting and important issues have not yet been clarified. There are many controversial and suspicious moments. For example, it is unclear why Yunus Safarov, who was detained after injuring the head of the executive branch of the city of Ganja, Elman Veliyev, was for some reason photographed in blood at the police station. Then this photo was sent to the social network. Why does not the authorities investigate this situation which had a great influence on the subsequent development of events, and do not determine the cause of the actions of the perpetrators? After the distribution of these photos, on June 10, unknown persons organized a suspicious action "Freedom to Yunus Safarov" in front of the executive authority in Ganja. In connection with the rally, telephone calls were made through WhatsApp to the numbers of many residents of the city of Ganja. Why did not the police recognize those who appointed the rally that was not coordinated with the authorities and who called many people?

It is noteworthy that in their testimony on the "Ganja case", officers of the criminal investigation department of the Kapaz District Police Department and other police officers stated that they were informed in advance of the illegal rally held in front of the administrative building in Ganja on May 10, 2018 given the necessary instructions. The police department announced a reinforced the operation regime, the police units were ready. However, since the morning of the same day, all weapons and protective equipment were taken from the police (!?). Regarding the killing of police colonels Ilgar Balakishiyev and Samad Abbasov, the police reported that they were at a distance of 70-100 meters, virtually without protection and without weapons. Events suggest a pre-prepared action scenario. It is very interesting that when two policemen were killed and one was wounded, the killer Rashad Boyukishiyev, with a dagger in his hand, easily fled the scene, where there were many policemen. Why didn't the police arrest him and other participants of the event on the spot, the very ones who are now in prison and were subsequently detained?

On the other hand, how could more than 50 people in the square be blamed for creating unrest, throwing stones and sticks to the police, but no other police officer was seriously injured that day? Why were Colonels Ilgar Balakishiyev and Samad Abbasov alone and helpless? Why a hundred police officers couldn"t protect or did not want to protect Ilgar Balakshiyev and Samad Abbasov from a man with a knife, while the Ganja police officers knew about the upcoming rally and riots? There is an impression of a prepared scenario in which the dead police officers were consciously or unknowingly sacrificed during these events...

From the testimony it can be seen that one of the disturbing events of this day was that in the square some women in Muslim clothes threw kettles and kitchen utensils at police officers. Interestingly, those who were not present at the scene were prosecuted under sections 15-23 of the Criminal Code; but those who committed murder, hooliganism, women in closed clothes or men disguised as women remained unpunished. Who sent them there?

According to the state prosecution for the "Ganja Case", 9 stones and 14 fragments of dishes were found at the scene. The question arises: why the "injured" police accuse more than 70 people of throwing stones and dishes at the police, while the indicated numbers of people and objects do not match each other? In addition, it should be noted that cracks in porcelain can occur even when disassembling the container. Also, "victims" police and witnesses were called to the courtroom, and everyone said that plates and dishes were thrown into the square by women in clothes. But where are these women? Maybe it was not the women under the clothes, but the men and they were the organizers of the provocation? Why was not Rashad Boyukishiyev caught alive and killed? Who and what is trying to hide? Why were eight people killed without investigation and interrogation? Was it impossible to catch them by the rules? What preventive security measures were taken to seize them according to police regulations? Why is not there public demonstration of the killing of these people? Why has not been the public still shown their serious criminal offenses? Why was killed Aga Sarkhan, who was not in Azerbaijan at that time; during the past year his body was not transferred to his family for burial?

Note. During the video demonstration at the trial, it is clear that Rashad Boyukishiyev was attacked by the police alone. No one helps him closely or remotely. No one in the square except Rashad had a weapon. In addition, other police officers either ignore him, who was holding the dagger, or do not prevent him from moving and attacking the police, while others simply watch him and leave the scene.

Interestingly, the police officers who created the conditions for the attack of Rashad (this can be seen on the video - Red.), still remain in the service. Police officers who do not fulfill their duties remain at workplaces, and dozens of innocents who watched, like the police behind the events, are imprisoned ...

There are many open questions regarding the events in Ganja. The authorities should answer all these questions, but they see the perpetrators of the arrested and consider these people to be religious radicals. But the great majority of those arrested in connection with the "Ganja case" are not religious. Even if they are religious, they cannot be considered guilty. And the majority of the detainees were not "organized gangs", as they were previously accused, during the trial they did not know each other.

Relevant departments should answer the above questions. Officials who have subjected people to cruel torture must be prosecuted. Persons who are not guilty of a crime and who are currently on trial should be released and acquitted. Investigations and trials of specific offenders, including Yunus Safar, should be fair and transparent. Elmar Veliyev must be taken into custody to investigate the violations he committed while in office.
