Former head of the State Mass Media Support Fund sentenced to 10 and a half years
Baku/21.12.21/Turan: The ex-head of the liquidated State Fund for Media Support Vugar Safarli has been imprisoned for 10 years and 6 months. Such a verdict was read out on December 21 by the Serious Crimes Court, finding Safarli guilty of large embezzlement of state funds.
His business partners involved in theft were also deprived of their liberty.
The total amount of embezzlement is estimated by the investigation at 18 million manats. The money was embezzled during the construction of a residential building for journalists in the Sabail district of Baku.
The embezzlement took place in 2015-218. Safarli placed the appropriated funds in a number of commercial banks.
Part of the money was transferred to the account of the newspaper Futbol + Qol, owned by Safarli.
Thefts were also carried out during public events, the costs of which were overestimated.
During the trial, the question was repeatedly raised that part of the stolen funds were transferred to Ali Hasanov, the assistant to the head of state, but the court did not summon Hasanov to the trial. -1602D-

Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
