Protests dictated by the need for change

-Nigar khanum, your father and spouse are currently under administrative arrest. Your brother is often called to the police. As you wrote on Facebook, your home is under police surveillance. What do they want from your family?

- I don’t think that only our family lives such a fate. True, our situation is somewhat different, since most of our family members, including myself, are fighting the Aliyev regime. It appears that the authorities are not content with the arrest of my father and spouse. Despite being under arrest, other family members are also being pressured. So they want to silence us.

- Specifically, what are they talking about with your brother (Rahim Yagublu - ed.) at meetings at the police station? What is required of him? Your father was tortured under arrest this time. As you write, they had personal conversations with him. What was required of your father, spouse and brother during these conversations? What were they threatened with?

-My brother was called to the police station under the pretext of filling out personal data and subjected to moral pressure there. He was threatened. They said he must not go to the rally. Otherwise, they threatened to take action. As for the situation with my father, it is somewhat different. As you know, Tofig Yagublu is not only a member of the Musavat party, he is also a member of the National Council, which is waging a decisive struggle against the government. The authorities, in turn, want to neutralize one by one all those who interfere with them. You probably know what happened to Tofig Yagublu on October 19th. He and Ali Karimli (Chairman of the PFPA - ed.) were brutally tortured. Father is required to leave the National Council and generally from politics. Otherwise, he will be taken to the "bandit department" and again tortured."

- Why did they choose your family? There are a lot of people fighting in Azerbaijan. Why are they so worried with Tofig Yagublu and Seymour Hazi?

Because Tofig Yagublu gives his life to this struggle. He has never put up with this power and showed his principled position. The same can be said of Seymour.

-How does everything happening, threats and harassment affect you and your family members? And will it somehow affect your struggle?

-Of course, the pressure is unpleasant, but this does not mean that if it is present, it is necessary to retreat. Our family has seen many things. True, the latest torture against Tofig Yagublu demonstrates that the authorities have violated all borders. All that they did will not remain unanswered. They will answer for everything. And all these instructions are given by Ilham Aliyev. If something happens to our family, the responsibility for this will fall on Ilham Aliyev.

- Recently, some revival has appeared in the opposition camp. It seems that this revival is worrying the authorities. What do you think is the reason for this recovery? Why are authorities so worried about this?

-And why should the authorities not worry about this revival? Of course, people governed by a dictatorship that has reigned for 26 years will be unhappy with the existing situation. The population wants change. The process after the rally on January 19 entered a new stage. And the October 8 picket of the National Council gave impetus to revitalization.

The rally, which took place on October 19, showed that even an unauthorized rally is attended by many people. Despite all the efforts of the authorities, it is impossible to strangle the protest. And the society is no longer the same. The people are driven by the current situation to despair. Therefore, the government does not agree to any protests, because it knows that its consent to a protest will mean the end of the regime.
