"The eternal enemy" or an ally?

As Georgia gears up for parliamentary elections on October 26, 2024, the country finds itself at a political crossroads. The upcoming vote could have far-reaching consequences, not only for Georgia’s internal dynamics but also for its foreign policy orientation and the broader geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus.

Negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a peace treaty have been going on for many months or even years. Can we expect the signing of the treaty soon, most of the articles of which, according to the latest reports, have been agreed upon? We had a talk about these matters and the legal aspects of the parties' claims with renowned lawyer Fuad Aghayev.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are reported to have reached full agreement on 13 out of 16 articles of a draft peace treaty, according to Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. Speaking at a briefing in Yerevan on September 9, alongside his Luxembourg counterpart, Mirzoyan expressed optimism about the potential for the peace agreement to be signed soon.

"Armenia has confirmed the official Baku statement that the clause on regional communications has been removed from the peace treaty draft based on mutual agreement. This was reported by Ani Badalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 7."
