Rustam Ibrahimbekov's book published in Istanbul
Istanbul/19.02.23/Turan: The first of 8 books, which included the prose works of the world-famous Azerbaijani prose writer, playwright, screenwriter, and director Rustam Ibrahimbekov, was published under the title “In this southern city”. The book, published by the Nestor Publishing House in Istanbul, includes the works “In this southern city” and “A Quiet Day”.
The book was translated into Turkish by the representative of the Turan agency in Turkey, candidate of philological sciences Mayis Alizade.
On the occasion of the release of the first book in the cycle of Rustam Ibrahimbekov's prose works in Turkish, Mayis Alizade said: “The publication of a book in Turkish by such a great expert in world prose as Rustam Ibrahimbekov is an important event for Turkey. The owner of the publishing house Taleh Bagiev, I myself, designer Sevinj Alekperova, editor Shafiga Babayeva approached the work with the utmost attention.
In an article we wrote for the back cover of “In this south city”, we noted that Ibrahimbekov's style has the same parallel as that of William Faulkner and James Joyce. We will cover the release of the book in the Turkish press, send copies to well-known reviewers, and hold presentations. The book will be sold wholesale and retail.
Another 7 books, including Ibrahimbekov's all prose works, are ready for publication, and we will send them to print in the near future. We also plan to translate and publish Ibrahimbekov's dramatic works.
In 2011, Rustam Ibrahimbekov, well known to the Turkish film community, was awarded the Lifetime Honorary Award at the Altın Portakal (Golden Orange) Film Festival in Antalya. We will do all the work necessary to present his prose works to a wide readership in Turkey and stage dramatic works. One of the first presentations will take place at Turkish PEN.”
The publication of the first prose book by Rustam Ibrahimbekov in Turkish also attracted the attention of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Art (IFCA), the strongest private foundation in Turkey in the field of literature and culture, and the IFCA offered the publishing house to hold a presentation of the book, which included two prose works by Ibrahimbekov, better known like a movie master.
The publications of “Nestor”, launched at the end of 2020, today include the works of Ahmet Agaoglu, Muhammad Amin Rasulzade, Mirzabala Mammadzade, Vagif Sultanli, Isa Huseynov, Akram Aylisli, as well as the book by Aslan Ismailov “Sumgayit: the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union”, etc. In the near future, the publishing house will release a novel by the great master of world prose Chingiz Huseynov “Fatali Fathi”, a story by Maksud Ibrahimbekov “There was no better brother”, “Who will go to Truskavets”, Akram Aylisli “Forests on the edge of the Kura”, “The heart is a special thing” and other writers. –0—

Events in history are not merely dates or fragments of historical memory; they leave deep marks on cultural memory as well. Artists, in particular, transfer these events into their works, shaped by their personal perceptions and interpretations. January 20 is one such event that has found its place in cultural memory. Although this topic is relatively less explored in contemporary art, it has never lost its relevance. How should this historical memory be represented? How does it manifest in art?

Each year, on January 13, Lithuania commemorates the Day of Freedom Defenders, honoring the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence in 1991. This pivotal moment in Lithuanian history marked the triumph of an unyielding will for freedom over Soviet oppression. Fourteen lives were lost, hundreds were injured, but the desire for liberty remained unshaken. The Day of Freedom Defenders is a solemn occasion for Lithuanians to reflect on their past and the true cost of freedom.
