UNESCO may include the historic center of Sheki on the World Heritage List

Baku / 06.21.19 / Turan: At the upcoming 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Baku, 36 applications for inscription on the World Heritage List will be considered.

The meeting will be held June 30 - July 10 under the chair of the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev.

Consideration of new objects will begin on July 5th. The World Heritage List is proposed to include a number of natural and cultural sites, including the historic center of the Azerbaijani city of Sheki, along with the Khan Palace.

In addition, during the upcoming session, the Committee will analyze the state of conservation of 166 sites inscribed on the World Heritage List and 54 sites under threat.

* The World Heritage Committee meets once a year and includes representatives from 21 countries participating in the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, elected by the General Assembly. The committee is responsible for implementing the World Heritage Convention.

The World Heritage List currently has 1092 properties in 167 countries of the world. -06D--
