Etibar Mammadov on 25 years of Independence
The main achievement of Azerbaijan for 25 years of independence has been the strengthening of statehood, turning the country into a full-fledged member of the international community. Over a quarter century, the independence of Azerbaijan became irreversible. In an interview with the program Cətin Sual (difficult question) Turan agency stated the leader of the National Independence, one of the leaders of the national democratic movement of the late 1980s, Etibar Mammadov. During this period the citizens of Azerbaijan formed thinking of an independent state, there is a process of recognition of Azerbaijan in the political, cultural and economic relations. He also pointed to the economic achievements of the country. However, the potential for economic progress is very small.
The regime, although has managed to ensure stability, it created not a market economy, but a bureaucratic capitalism, Mammadov said. The government is very slow in the implementation of reforms in the armed forces. However, after the change of the Minister of Defense, the reform went well and today Azerbaijani army is fully deployable, disciplined and secured.
With regard to foreign policy, according to Mammadov, the government of the Popular Front and the "Musavat" announced policy of European integration, and the same policy carried out the power which new power. However, with the strengthening of Russia, some corrections were made in the policy of Baku, and it has become more balanced. Mammadov doubts the effectiveness of such a policy for the longer term.
He does not agree with the calls that we should stop relations with Europe, the Euro-Atlantic structures. In today's globalized world it is impossible to be completely isolated, he said.
In conclusion, Mammadov shared his concern that people who disagree with the government, no longer consider it their state. "The government may change, but the state remains," he said.
For the development of the economy is necessary to ensure economic freedom, to diversify the economy, to get rid of dependence on oil, which reaches 95%.
"Without all this cannot be achieved any stabilization of manat, or catching in the economy and social sphere," said Etibar Mamedov.-03B06--
