News from Gubad Ibadoglu, Nazim Baydamirli and Bakhtiar Hajiyev... - Rufat Safarov in the program "Difficult Question"
Baku/01.09.23/Turan: The chairman of the Party of Democracy and Prosperity of Azerbaijan, Gubad Ibadoglu, who has been in custody, has been charged with new charges since August 25. The new charge brought against him falls under article 167-3.1 of the Criminal Code concerning the production, storage or distribution of materials promoting religious extremist activity or justifying its existence. This revelation was made public by Zibeida Sadygova, Ibadoglu's legal representative.
Meanwhile, activist Bakhtiar Hajiyev became embroiled in a dispute with human rights activist Novella Jafaroglu related to the activities of the Soros Foundation. Social media accounts reported that Jafaroglu's Novella accused Bakhtiar Hajiyev of receiving financial support from the Soros Foundation. However, the human rights activist denies such accusations and claimed that her name was abused.
Meanwhile, economist and businessman Nazim Beidamirli, who has been under arrest for 40 days, finally got the opportunity to meet with his family. In an interview with the Turan news agency, Farida Beidamirli, his wife, said that Nazim's mood was elated, and he expressed satisfaction with the conditions of his detention. He underwent a medical examination and received the necessary medications. Prior to this meeting, there were reports of threats to initiate further criminal cases against Nazim Beidamirli.
Practicing lawyer Zibeida Sadygova found herself under pressure from the Bar Association, which intends to apply disciplinary measures to her. Zibeida Sadygova believes that this is connected with her activities
for the protection of human rights. This situation is reminiscent of the previous incident when her lawyer husband, Elchin Sadigov, was expelled from the board.
Concerns were expressed about the fate of Agali Yahyaev, a member of the board of the Muslim Unity Movement (MME), since his family did not receive any messages from him for almost a day. Given the recent wave of arrests affecting many believers, including MME members, his family suggests that he may have also been detained by law enforcement.
Rufat Safarov, a human rights activist, shared his opinion about these events in the program "Difficult Question". Safarov claimed that the Azerbaijani authorities persist in establishing control over civil society. He expressed the opinion that the case of Gubad Ibadoglu is politically motivated, and his arrest was authorized by the authorities. This point of view extends to the cases of Bakhtiar Hajiyev, Nazim Beidamirli and members of the Muslim Unity Movement.
The events unfolding in Azerbaijan highlight the ongoing struggle between civil liberties and state power, centered on activists, lawyers and individuals in a tangled web of litigation and accusations.
