Ilham Aliyev removed Jahangir Asgarov from the post of head of AZAL
Baku/01.09.23/Turan: An important event was that Jahangir Asgarov was relieved of his long-term position as President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC in accordance with the order of President Ilham Aliyev. The departure of Askerov, who headed the state-owned airline since 1996, marks a noticeable change in leadership.
The duties of the head of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC are temporarily assigned to the First Vice-President of CJSC Samir Musa oglu Rzayev. Rzayev's appointment to this temporary position followed his previous appointment as first Vice president in 2022, a position he took on the instructions of the head of state. Prior Rzayev held the position of Vice President of CJSC.
From 2017 to 2022, he worked as a sales manager in the Bravo supermarket chain. Earlier, in the period from 2009 to 2017, he took the position of head of the Financial Department of the Azerbaijan Mortgage Lending and Loan Guarantee Fund.
Rzayev studied for a master's degree at Durham University in the UK in 2003-2004.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
